Microsoft Releases Webmatrix Development Kit

24 Jan 2011 - Microsoft has just packaged open-source software for creating a web development tool kit. The Webmatrix development kit from Microsoft is intended for all sorts of web developers. The kit allows easy access to the software as well as web hosting providers available at present. Microsoft has surprised developers with its decision of promoting open-source software packages within Webmatrix encompassing the revered Joomla and Wordpress CMS.

Some 40 open-source apps constitute the renewed effort of Microsoft for producing web publishing software. While software apps like the Wordpress aren’t in direct competition with any product from the house of Microsoft, amazingly for Vole, it’s pushing PHP that goes up right against its very own Active Server Pages software. There are SEO tools included to help those on the lookout of a web hosting firm.

Microsoft has somehow managed to allure some thirty web hosting service providers across the globe for promoting their services via Webmatrix. However, uploading content to just any provider using the software is also quite possible.

Well, it’s pretty good to see that Microsoft is embracing the software that’s widely in use. Earlier the company had asserted on peddling of heavy weight apps for pseudo web development for instance the Frontpage and Expression Web that generate code that could at max be considered of confutative quality. But, packaging the refined and feature rich software like Joomla and Wordpress isn’t just great for the users but also casts a wonderful impression that MS (Microsoft) actually is concerned about the web standards.

Though Webmatrix can be seen as the app store of a web developer, the very fact that MS has decided stocking it with open-source software goes to some extent showing the rapid progress of open-source projects over the years.
