Career Communications Group, Inc. (CCG) is a media company that has been connecting top talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) with global organizations for over 40 years. They offer publications, events, and programs to inspire and develop professionals in these fields. CCG approached us to develop a virtual library for one of their metaverse platforms where users could explore bookshelves and expand their knowledge.
The client asked us to develop a 3D virtual library where users could explore books and information about the BEYA (Black Engineer of the Year Awards) and its Hall of Fame. They also wanted an AI-powered receptionist bot to help users easily find books and articles along with a backend system to organize books and make searching easier.
We used Unity to build the 3D library, adding realistic details like bookshelves, books, chairs, and tables. We also created the AI-powered receptionist bot using an AI model called Ollama (which helps search for books and articles) and trained it using LSTM (a technology that helps the AI improve over time). This allows users to search for books or articles by typing keywords. For the backend, we used Python to organize and search the library’s content, while incorporating AI/ML to improve the search functionality. We also worked to make sure the library ran smoothly on websites, optimizing it for faster load times and better performance. Our team worked together on organizing the content, improving the search functionality, and optimizing performance for a smooth user experience. We coordinated and ensured the project was completed on time and functioned as expected.
The project took 6 months to complete. Challenges included finding the right 3D assets within budget, so some were customized in-house. The AI model needed fine-tuning to improve search accuracy. Additionally, optimization was required to ensure the 3D library ran smoothly in web browsers.
The client now has a 3D library that’s fun to explore, with a simple AI-powered search feature. The library is easy to grow in the future, and content management is made easier with both 2D and 3D in one system. The dynamic lighting gives it a personalized touch, and the AI search makes it quick for users to find what they need.
