Shopify store solution for ‘Lighting Design' company in USA

Client Brief

'Lighting Design' company, established in 1997, sells quality lighting and design products to homeowners, contractors, and interior designers across USA. The client approached us to improve their Shopify store’s functionality and expand its capabilities on their website. The client struggled with Shopify’s limitations, such as the inability to manage customer wishlists and promote their business effectively.

Our Endeavor

The client asked us to create a solution that would help them manage customer wishlists, organize their sales team and trade partners, and promote their business beyond Shopify.

Since Shopify didn’t have a built-in feature to manage wishlists, a custom admin panel was developed using NodeJS, Express, and MongoDB and integrated with Shopify through its API. This solution provided wishlist functionality while still leveraging Shopify’s data, such as product catalogs and customer details, to address the problem effectively. We developed three distinct user roles such as admin, salespeople, and trade partners, each with specific permissions to control access. Admins could easily manage salespeople and trade partners, ensuring each trade partner was linked to a specific salesperson for better organization. Additionally, the system allowed users to add products, adjust quantities, and add comments to customer wishlists, simplifying management. Challenges arose with GraphQL, a tool used for retrieving and managing data between systems, as there were no clear solutions available. GraphQL was needed to fetch information from Shopify, like product catalogs and customer details. After conducting research and experimenting with the SDK locally, the integration was successfully completed.

The entire project took 9 months to complete. The client can now manage their sales team, trade partners, and customer wishlists, improving marketing, business growth, and customer experience.
