Website for 'PenBlock' Using Drupal - Virtual Bookshelf

Client Brief

PenBlock wanted us to integrate the Product Advertising API into their Amazon Webstore, which specializes in books. The main goal was to connect the website with Amazon’s system so that books available on Amazon could be easily searched and displayed on the store. They also wanted the website to have an updated and user-friendly interface where readers could look up books directly through the Amazon search feature. Along with this, the client provided a pre-purchased theme that needed to be integrated without disturbing the existing structure. The project also involved fixing minor display and layout issues and improving the visual presentation to give users a better browsing experience.

Our Endeavor

PenBlock is designed as a virtual bookshelf for both readers and authors, offering a smooth way to search and explore books through an integrated Amazon connection. Our development team worked on enhancing the admin section to allow content management related to books fetched directly from Amazon. We modified the existing content type so that book details could be stored and managed easily within the admin panel.

On the website’s front end, we added the Amazon search feature to the Drupal main search controller. This integration allows users to find books through the Amazon database while staying on the PenBlock platform. The client shared their preferred theme, and our team carefully incorporated the search functionality into it, maintaining the theme’s structure and visual appeal.

To improve the browsing experience, we made several visual updates across the interface. These updates focused on making the layout clearer, adjusting image displays, and refining the placement of elements on different pages. Such refinements were important to make the website appear neat and easy to navigate for readers.

During the process, our developers also worked on fixing technical issues that affected the search results. One key issue was the blurred image problem, which we resolved by adjusting how book images were fetched and displayed from Amazon. This helped improve the overall look of search results, making them more appealing and accurate.

Apart from functional upgrades, we carried out additional enhancements that contributed to better performance and usability. These included refining the search logic, ensuring that the integration worked smoothly with the existing Drupal setup, and maintaining consistency across pages. Each update was made with attention to detail, focusing on stability and user experience.

Through this project, we transformed PenBlock into an engaging and easy-to-manage platform for book lovers and authors. The new system makes it simpler for admins to update content and for users to find books they’re interested in, all while keeping the original design aesthetics intact.
