The client approached us to build an online multiplayer version of the classic Monopoly board game. They wanted a platform where players could compete with friends or face off against bots, featuring turn-based gameplay that works smoothly across different devices.
Our team developed a cross-platform online version of Monopoly using Unity, C#, and Unity Netcode. This game replicates the original Monopoly board with property trading, chance cards, and turn-based rules.
To make sure the gameplay ran smoothly, we built a turn-based multiplayer system where players take their actions sequentially. We used authoritative server logic with rollback through Unity Netcode to prevent cheating and fix any sync issues. We also added an auto-save and reconnect feature, so if a player drops out mid-game, they can rejoin without losing progress. And if they don't return in time, a bot steps in to keep the game moving for everyone else.
The end result is a stable and engaging online experience that lets users enjoy Monopoly from anywhere. The game positions the client well in the growing digital board game market, with potential revenue streams via in-app purchases and premium customizations.
