A few hundred products is manageable on almost any platform. A few thousand is a different situation entirely, especially when buyers are hunting for something specific inside a catalog that keeps adding new lines every season. That is where eHobbyAsia found themselves — strong brand, loyal following, growing international reach, but a platform that had started working against them rather than for them.
Navigation did not match how buyers think. Search returned too much without helping narrow anything down. Pages were not loading at a speed that kept people around. Backend management had quietly become a time sink. The decision to rebuild on Shopify properly was the right call.
eHobbyAsia is a well established airsoft retailer based in Hong Kong, serving enthusiasts and buyers across the globe. The brand has built a strong reputation by offering a wide selection of products from trusted manufacturers — covering airsoft rifles, pistols, tactical equipment, upgrade components, magazines, and outdoor accessories. With a focus on fast delivery and dependable support, eHobbyAsia has become a go-to destination for airsoft buyers who value both product variety and a reliable shopping experience.
Customers arrive from various regions, browse on whatever device is handy, and expect to locate a specific part or accessory without having to dig through irrelevant listings to get there.
Before any work started, the priorities were locked in clearly:
The primary challenge was upgrading the Shopify store from Version 1.0 to Shopify 2.0 without changing the existing design, layout, or structure that customers were already familiar with. Every element of the old theme had to be carefully rebuilt in the new version using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to ensure a pixel perfect match.
Beyond the technical migration, the upgrade also needed to be completed in a separate environment so the live store stayed fully operational throughout the process with no disruption to daily orders or customer activity.
Rather than layering fixes onto what existed, the build started from the ground up with catalog structure, buyer journey, and backend usability all planned out before a single page went live.
The visual side was rebuilt to reflect the brand properly rather than looking like a slightly adjusted default theme.
Communication stayed clear throughout, decisions got made without unnecessary delays, and the focus remained on what the finished product needed to do rather than getting caught up in things that did not move the project forward. From the first brief to the final launch, the process held together better than most engagements of this size tend to.
The Shopify 1.0 to 2.0 upgrade gave eHobby Asia a modern store without disrupting the one customers already knew:
The client now runs on a stable, modern store that supports Shopify's latest updates, works smoothly with apps, and is built for long-term use.
