Genie-Lock by Pimp My Box Ltd is a smart locking system made for engineers and mechanics who spend serious money on their tools. The idea is straightforward — your toolbox locks itself when you walk away and unlocks when you come back, all on its own. No keys, no buttons, no stopping what you are doing. It pairs with a phone app over Bluetooth and handles everything quietly in the background. Our team built the Android app that powers this whole experience, using Kotlin and Bluetooth services to make it work reliably in real working conditions.

Engineers and mechanics put thousands into their tools. A solid set costs a fortune, and a proper toolbox to keep them in is not cheap either. But through a long working day in a busy garage or workshop, that box gets left open more than anyone likes to admit. Stopping to lock it every time you step away just is not practical when you are in the middle of a job.
Genie-Lock was built to take that problem off your hands completely. The lock does the job for you. You walk away, it locks. You come back, it unlocks. That is it.
Genie-Lock is what engineers and mechanics now use instead of worrying about whether they remembered to lock up. It slides straight into the toolbox, no drilling, no screwing, no modifications to the box at all. It connects to a phone over Bluetooth and from that point on it just runs quietly in the background.
For this to actually hold up in daily use, two things had to be true. The app had to be reliable enough that it never left the box locked when the owner was standing right there, and the Bluetooth connection had to stay solid through the kind of noisy, busy workshop environment these users work in every single day.
Getting the idea to work on paper was straightforward. Getting it to work properly in a real workshop, on different phones, surrounded by metal toolboxes and competing Bluetooth signals, was a different challenge entirely.
The build was handled in clear stages, with each part checked properly before moving on to the next.
Before writing any app code, we spent time getting a proper feel for how the locking hardware worked and what the Bluetooth connection needed to do dependably. That early groundwork shaped everything that came after it.
Building an app tied to a physical product brought a different set of things to think about compared to a regular software project. A good chunk of the early effort went into understanding the product itself, how it was installed, where it would be used, and what the people using it actually needed day to day. That grounding kept the whole build focused on what mattered rather than getting lost in things that did not.
Working through clear stages meant problems got spotted and sorted early, which made the whole process a lot smoother than leaving testing until the end.
